Contents Information:
If there is a book of poetry more weighed down with loss then I don’t know it.

The book of 88 poems was released months before the English poet Ted Hughes’s death in 1998.

The book is dedicated to Frieda and her brother Nicholas.

Frieda also designed the dust jacket for the trade issue.

The collection won multiple prestigious literary awards, including the Whitbread Prize in 1999. (Frieda accepted this award on her father’s behalf.)

The poems in the collection reflect on Hughes’s relationship American poet Sylvia Plath whom he married and had two children with.

The poems were supposedly written every year on the 27th October – the birthday of Sylvia Plath –  in the years following her suicide in 1963.
